Hopsons service of Tenebrae follows a tradition of the early church dating back to the eighth century, and commemorates the final hours of Christs life on earth as He prepared for and suffered death on the cross. TENEBRAE: A SERVICE OF DARKNESS is scored for SATB choir and congregation with organ and optional oboe. Separate scores are available for oboe, string quartet or quintet, or a full string orchestra. A congregational part is also available, which incorporates the readings and prayers of the service as well as those hymns sung by the congregation itself.
